GMC Headlights

GMC or General Motors Truck Company is mostly known for its trucks, buses, military vehicles, vans, and sport utility vehicles. Founded more than a century ago, this Detroit based giant has now dealerships all around the world, and in the US they also sell Buicks. GMC is not famous for its innovative headlight design, but even they have changed the dimmer 3-rd generation headlights to brighter halogen bulbs in 2014.

GMC Acadia Headlights

GM’s Acadia hits the family sweet spot with 7- or 8-passenger seating, front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive layout, and towing capacity of 5200 lb. The second-row Smart Slide system makes it easy to crawl in or out, and you don’t have to travel far down the option list to find a kid-friendly rear-seat entertainment system. Families who avoided the worst of the Great Recession’s carnage may want to examine the upscale Denali, which includes perforated leather seats with matching door trim, heated and cooled driver and passenger seats, a head-up display and Dual SkyScrape sunroof. GMC keeps things simple with a single powertrain configuration, a 288-bhp VVT V-6 with 6-speed automatic. For 2012, there are new colors and some formerly optional equipment is now standard.

GMC Canyon Headlights

Now that the Dodge Dakota, Ford Ranger and Explorer Sport Trac have been sent to truck heaven, the GMC Canyon and its Chevrolet Colorado cousin are your domestic choices in the compact truck market. Fortunately, the Canyon covers a lot of ground, with choice of 4-, 5- or 8-cylinder engines, three cab options and two bed lengths. To maximize the 5.3-liter V-8’s street potential, order the ZQ8 sport suspension. Off-roaders will want the rugged Z71 suspension, but all 4wd models (and Crew Cabs) come standard with an automatic locking rear differential for 2012. Also new is a Bodyguard Package that shields the sheet metal with bedrail protectors and molded splash guards. Late in 2011, Bluetooth connectivity was added to the audio system as standard equipment.

GMC Envoy Headlights

Of all of GMC’s models, the Envoy and Envoy Denali receive the fewest updates for the 2009 model year; hands-free Bluetooth cellphone connectivity now comes standard, and there are three new metallic paint colors to choose from—Quicksilver, Silver-Green and Sand Beige. If you like the Envoy’s looks and practicality and have additional coin to spend, then by all means upgrade to the Denali version with its more upscale luxury and convenience features. Another tip: The 5.3-liter V-8—standard on the Denali and the optional powerplant for the Envoy—actually delivers better fuel mileage (15 mpg city/21 mpg highway) than the inline-6, thanks to GM’s Active Fuel Management cylinder deactivation technology. Although large, the GMC Envoy only seats five.

GMC Savana Headlights

Attributes of the big GM vans are fuel efficiency and the wide-opening rear doors, which open so far they resemble a snake’s dislocating jaws that allow the creature to swallow animals four times its size. That’s the GM “G-van”, the Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana. On the road, the GM twins ride the best, we think—not as bouncy as the Ford E-van. The GM vans are powered by a 5.3-liter V-8 with 310 bhp and E85 capability. With a 31-gal. fuel tank, however, you can eek out 527 miles on a tank of gas at 17 mpg. What’s more, the diesel version of the van is powered by a home-grown V-8, with pushrods operating four valves per cylinder under a turbocharger, making an enormous 525 lb.-ft. of torque at just 1600 rpm, returning a fuel range of 500 miles.

GMC Sierra 1500 Headlights

The Sierra 1500 carries on for 2012 in familiar fashion, although buyers will find more standard equipment and additional comforts. Power door locks are standard on all models, and even the Work Truck model gets standard cruise control. The Sierra Denali now comes standard with heated and cooled seats and the rearview camera system. Powertrain choices abound—a V-6, four V-8 variants, or a hybrid powertrain that delivers 20 mpg city. The smaller engines get a 4-speed automatic; the larger V-8s come with a 6-speed automatic. There are three cab options—regular, extended and crew. Ample trailering and off-road options can be had, but if entertainment options are your priority, a new navigation radio with satellite, DVD, MP3 and USB is available.

GMC Sierra 2500HD Headlights

The Sierra HD has been hitting the weight room over the summer, and boasts a pumped-up towing capacity for its efforts. The 3500HD can now drag 23,000 lb. behind it, and the 3500HD regular cab gasoline dually has an increased payload capacity of 7215 lb. There’s also a high-idle switch available this year for the 2500HD. But it’s not all sweat and blood for 2012. There’s a new navigation radio for the Denali and SLT; cruise control is now standard on the Work Truck; and heated and cooled leather seats (and a rearview camera) come standard on the Denali. The Sierra HD was heavily revised last year, so much carries over—6.0-liter gas V-8 or 6.6-liter turbodiesel, 6-speed automatic, tough independent front suspension and a solid warranty.

GMC Terrain Headlights

GMC’s midsize Terrain rolls into 2012 little changed from 2011, but with several key refinements. The powertrain lineup is the same as last year—base 2.4-liter 4-cylinder or 3.0-liter V-6 with standard 6-speed automatic. But this year, E85 flex-fuel capability trickles down to the 4-cylinder, so both engines can now digest the Heartland’s corn squeezings. The stylish interior now includes a 7-in. touchscreen audio system standard. Mid-year, GM’s Intellilink system will become available, allowing drivers to tie together and customize their various entertainment and communication gadgetry. The Terrain is available in fwd or awd models, in SLE or posh SLT trim. At the higher SLT trim level, you can now order lane-departure warning and forward collision alert.

GMC Yukon Headlights

Thanks to its size, traditional body-on-frame construction and multitude of options, the GMC Yukon family leaves a big footprint in the SUV market. There are two wheelbases available, 116-in. and 130-in. (XL), and choice of 5.3-, 6.0- or 6.2-liter V-8s, all of which are flex-fuel capable. Or if 20 mpg city sounds good, check out the Hybrid model. The long-wheelbase XL is available in the 1500 series or the heavier-duty 2500, which has a towing capacity of 9600 lb. There is an entry-level Yukon SLE available, but GMC’s biggest SUV is better known for the upscale Denali. The Denali model continues to add features, with standard blind-spot alert for 2012. The StabiliTrak system now includes electronic trailer sway control and hill start assist.
