Jeep Headlights

Jeep is an American car brand that belongs to Fiat Chrysler corporation and whose sport utility vehicles have been in production since the 2nd World War. Jeep was the first company to introduce the camera-based beam selection in 2005 (on its Grand Cherokee model), which will automatically dim when the bright reflection bounces off a street sign that might otherwise distract the driver.

Jeep Commander Headlights

For fans of traditional Jeep styling who need room to stretch out, the Commander is aimed at you. It’s the only Jeep to offer 3-row seating (theater-style, no less), and offers even more front seat head room than a Ram 1500 pickup. It is also better equipped for actual off-roading than most of its competitors, thanks to the Quadra-Drive II transfer case with limited-slip differentials. The 4×4 models come with Hill-Descent Control and Hill-Start Assist. A 3.7-liter V-6 is standard with the Sport model, while the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 with cylinder deactivation is optional on the Sport, and standard with the Limited. Both are fitted with 5-speed automatics. The Overland model has been dropped for 2010.

Jeep Compass Headlights

The most un-Jeep-like Jeep ever to wear the badge returns for the 2012 model year relatively unchanged after a major refresh for 2011. Three new topcoats are offered—True Blue Pearl Coat, Copperhead Pearl Coat and Rescue Green Pearl Coat. Of more significance to the vehicle’s mainstream (read: “Main Street”) buyer are new calibrations for the continuously variable transmission, designed to smooth low-speed deceleration and improve pedal response and acceleration. And Main Street is where the Compass finds its way, thanks to its sporty, sedan-like interior, humble power output and respectable fuel economy. While no trail buster, the Compass delivers a whopping dose of practical tractability when outfitted with the 2.4-liter engine and the Jeep Freedom Drive II Off-Road Package.

Jeep Patriot Headlights

The Patriot does an admirable job of delivering that elusive combination of fuel economy and affordable pricing with genuine Jeep heritage styling and off-highway performance. For a crossover of its size and weight, the Patriot begs for more underhood muscle, but when outfitted with the 172-bhp 2.4-liter World Engine and Freedom Drive II Off-Road Package (which includes the continuously variable transaxle with low range, pleasing 19:1 crawl ratio and 17-in. tires), this rig satisfies the real-world off-road quotient without busting the bank at the gas pump. Street cred comes via liberal standard safety and security features (30 of them), mild on-road manners and a generous interior options list.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Headlights

While the majority of Grand Cherokees sold will never see a dirt road, let alone a genuine 4×4 trail, buyers can be confident that their “Trail Rated” midsize SUV can put its rivals to shame on the rough stuff. But roughing it is not what the Grand Cherokee is about. It’s about a premium driving environment in a rock-ready 4×4. Last year’s remake addressed many nagging issues with the Grand, such as cramped second-row quarters and underwhelming interior quality. The new Selec-Terrain and Quadra-Lift air suspension systems deliver improved on- and off-road performance (courtesy of five drive settings), and the new Overland Summit model raises luxury to decadent levels. Returning for 2012 is the fire-breathing SRT8—a boulevard screamer high on sporty moves, a sporty cockpit and the 6.4L Hemi’s insane 470 bhp.

Jeep Liberty Headlights

It doesn’t take a long look across the Jeep landscape to see that the brand’s midsize SUV, the Liberty, continues to receive short-shrift. Choose any powertrain you want, so long as it’s the 4-speed automatic and old 3.7-liter V-6 already ejected from other Jeep models. The midlevel Renegade model has abruptly disappeared (cue crickets), to be replaced by last year’s Limited Jet—basically an oh-so-minor appearance package of the Limited. Then there’s the chronic issue of Liberty’s hard, plasticky interior treatment. A shame, really, because the Liberty, with its heritage looks, proven off-road prowess, live rear axle and rear-wheel-drive layout has the potential to be a standout in the midsize SUV field, given some corporate TLC.

Jeep Wrangler Headlights

Last year, the Jeep Wrangler was treated to an all-new interior. This year, the focus is on a more powerful and efficient powertrain. The new 3.6-liter V-6 delivers a muscular 285 bhp and 260 lb.-ft. of torque, up 40 percent and 10 percent, respectively, from the old 3.8-liter V-6. Yet, despite the increased power, the 2012 Wrangler offers improved fuel economy over its predecessor. A new 5-speed automatic replaces the former 4-speed, or choose the 6-speed manual. While the interior remains tight (made less so with the 4-door Unlimited), an ample selection of luxuries, such as heated seats, steering wheel controls, automatic temperature control and electronic handling features provides an optimal balance between daily driver comfort and weekend trail running. Serious off-roaders should check out the locked-and-loaded Rubicon model.
